new recipe: week ten.

I have been making my own granola for quite some time now, one day I was just standing there with a box in my hand and thinking it must be cheaper to just make this myself. And of course it is, I haven't bought granola since, but the kind I usually make ends more more yogurt topping, cereal esc. I absolutely LOVE it but it gets kind of messy if I eat it plain which its not the best for eating while walking around campus.
I bring my lunch everyday, but I am literally scraping for gas money until my regular nanny job starts next week, so grocery shopping hasn't really happened. I figured I have enough rolled oats to try something new that would help keep me full at lunch until then.
This Week: Homemade Granola Bars
Let me tell you they came out delish! They were so easy to make I honestly am not sure why I have not done it sooner. So my belly is happy and I do not look like a fool trying to walk and eat this at school.
mmm:)
sorry for the fuzzy photo I was losing light quick.
I have to post this giveaway I just have had no time for pictures! I promise I am working on it!
more later, I had a most wonderful night with a little I cannot wait to introduce you to.

first day.

So yes I haven't quite got into my new routine yet, but I promise I am working on it.
Yesterday was my first day of school and it actually went pretty well. Though I do not love being on campus, I do really love learning and growing. I think this made me even more optimistic than last fall semester.
My parents used to always take pictures of us outside the house on our first day of school so I thought I would keep the tradish alive, even if its nothing special.
some other things keeping me thankful at school:
sunshine
great professors
lots of good books to read this semester
being outside my comfort zone
eating lunch under trees
having a phone to text my boy
iced coffee
walking a lot
people who hold the door for you
listening to music
people watching
ALSO! did anyone else see the amazing school supplies target has? I mean spot on my favorite color combo! I wanted to buy everything!
and cant forget a package of back to school squinkies from my boy to keep me smiling, I just love him so much.
more later tonight. lots to try and catch up.

So I forgot to tell you..

I am a total gleek.
This is a show I have been trying to resist because I honestly knew it would start and obsession.
But a few weeks ago when I revealed to my friend Sarah that I was still yet to give into it, she figured she would be the perfect person to break me in:)
We watched five hours of glee that night, we couldn't stop. She let me borrow the dvds and I preceded to watch two whole seasons in four days.
disgusting, I'm aware.
But its a series thats basically a musical, how could I not be in love?!
So we have now instated family glee nights for this coming fall at Sarah and Adams new house, I'm stoked.
My secrets out.

happy mornings.

This week went from moderately busy to I have no time to breathe in a matter of seconds.
It has been CRAZY and now Monday marks the beginning of a new semester, what?
A midst the madness I have been sticking in some time with some of the people I like a real lot:) Earlier in the week before it got too crazy I got to be productive and happy visit on one of my craft dates with miss Lisa.
I enjoyed a yummy breakfast and great morning chats with her and her most lovely roommate Marisa. I do very much like starting my mornings off there.
Then we went to Joe Bean to talk about when my things were coming down (can you believe the month is over!) and when Lisa's are going up. Yes! she is showcasing her photography based on local food, yippie!
here are two photos of hers I really love..
Great right? She turned the one with the tomatoes into a card and I got it at the most recent Hearts and Crafts it said "i'd share my tomatoes with you" ekk so cute.
Then we went back to the house and worked on our crafts, I did one of my least favorite things.. cutting out fabric, bleck. Least favorite part of sewing, so time consuming and titus. But it was good to spend two straight hours cutting and stock piling, now I am ready to go.
talking and crafting, so talented:) hehe
My craft mornings with Lisa are seriously one of my favorite ways to start my day.
more tonight,

newness.

I know you have been anxiously awaiting my news, right?
Maybe you have, but may not either way I am ready to share.
................I got a new job..................
I know, I know people get new jobs all the time why are you so nervous, what's the big fuss? Well, it is just the fact that it is something I have never done before.
I got a job on a farm, helping to set up weddings.
Yea, it is beautiful right?
Let me give you a little back story months and months ago Greg and I went to look around, we bought some jam and I fell in love. Completely enchanted with the place, Greg felt everything they did there was very "me" and I should try to work there.
I thought he was completely crazy but I felt I would kick myself if I never tried.
I called at the end of june to tell them I was interested and they said they would get back to me.
They never did, but I didnt mind, I was just proud I called.
Then two Fridays ago I got a call saying they would really love to meet with me, and asked if I could come in Monday for a chat. I went in Monday, got the job Tuesday and started Thursday and have been setting up weddings and events everyday since.

It is has been really magical and I have already learned so much. Everything they serve at the wedding that make fresh that day. I loved when they first said we need mint, or basil, or rosemary they just handed me a bucket and I went out to pick some. Everything is SO fresh. Don't get me wrong it is a farm there is a lot of manual labor too, but knowing it is someone's special day I cheerfully am willing to rake the yard or carry chairs or pick flowers in the sun.
I am still nervous and feeling it out but I do love the learning and creativity piece.
Thank for letting me share,
xo j

I never said I was brave.

Today I am embarking on a new adventure. I have to be honest, I am totally nervous and my morning coffee is seeming to only make me shake more compulsively. I have to be vague for now, because I am not really sure of all the logistics myself. All I know is I feel like a little kid on the first day of school, large smiles that hide insecurity of the unknown. I am thankful I get to try new things, it makes for a most interesting life.
I hope your today is filled with beauty,

//just a peak//

One of the personal tasks I have been working on this summer is making a portfolio of sorts in art journal form.
I wont lie, it has been weird to do something creative that wasn't ultimately for someone else, I feel sort of selfish but I really think its important to log all this randomness I do.

These are just a few of the pages I have finished, I am really proud of how its coming together. And its really nice to make something completely stress free. Just crafting to craft is something I sort of love.
I am getting excited about some upcoming things, I will share them with you within the next few days:)

You made this world to look so nice.

Just a good story..
I bought this mewithoutyou shirt at a show 4 or 5 years ago. When I saw it I was totally in love with the color of the shirt and the design. I have a lot of mewithoutyou tee's (maybe 8 or so) one from every tour that has come to our area over the years. This one was so different though, like nothing I had ever seen them have, the only size left was XL but I had to get it anyway.
Now fast forward 5 years and you will never believe my face when I first ever wore this around Greg and he looked at me and said "My friend designed that shirt".
Yup, the very talented Elizabeth I sometimes share posts about. The one who made Greg's christmas gift, and who's beautiful wedding we attended this summer. Ya, that girl also made a ridiculously awesome shirt for mewithoutyou, win.
I every time I wear it I smile, and this time I just had to share with you.
And speaking with mewithoutyou, they were recently in town, and I missed them for the first time EVER. This is literally the only time I have even talked about it because I get emotional, I was out of town for a wedding. wahhh!
But my brother Kyle went and he sent me a video and I almost cried at the wedding when I got it.
When I got home from Jersey he surprised me with It's All Crazy, It's all False on vinyl!
ekkkkkkkk! :)
Such a super good brother.
I have so much to tell you:) more updates to come!

you're the girl of my dreams and a pistol it seems.

When I was in the garden state last weekend, my dear friends Lindsey and Mike celebrated their one year anniversary of marriage! whoo hoo! They had a super beautiful wedding which I blogged about here, and it has been a honor to get to witness them grow together this past year.
Lindsey asked me if I wouldn't mind taking some anniversary pictures for them. I tried to reject her offer at first, telling her next time she visited Rochester I had plenty of friends who are real photographers who would be happy to take her pictures. She said she just wanted me to do it, she just wanted it simple and comfortable.
How could I say no?
So here are some peaks for my dear friend Lindsey, I am no professional but I hope these make her smile.
I am pretty happy with the way the came out. And thankful to have a boyfriend willing to do my editing because I truly hate it. haha. I also took some with film that I cannot waiiitttt to get back. I thought I was coming home to finally rest but I have still been non stop. I cannot wait to show you some of the things I have been doing though, holy ekk.
I should go to sleep but I have had far too much coffee.

Retro Beauty.

I have always been inspired by my Nan, she is pretty much the most amazing woman ever.
Her fashion sense has forever been a crush of mine. When I was little she had all her vintage shoes still in original boxes, her clothes were all in perfect condition, and of course she had purses to match everything. (I actually remember getting made fun of in elementary school and middle school for wearing her old clothes, haha who knew it would all be so cool now) She is also responsible for my obsession with pyrex because I grew up with it around her house, I may have just taken it to an unhealthy level, hehe. I also loved that she used to be a hair dresser because when I came home and told her I wanted to dye my hair pink, she happily helped me. Or when I wanted to learn how to bee hive my hair, she was showing me the correct way to french twist.
Last week my family was going through some old pictures and I stumbled upon yet another reason Nan and I are soul mates.
Nan totally rocked the blonde in the front during the 70s.
SO RAD RIGHT! My Nan is a such a betty!
I had to pull some more just because they are so great!
my Nan was the hottest mom ever.
I am in love with these. I cannot wait to find more.
drinking tea and catching up.

DIY: Milk Maid Braids

So yesterday was yet another beautiful wedding, I cannot wait to share pictures of all these beautiful events with you. I swear someday I will catch up!
But for now I have a fun little how to for you! One of my very favorite summer hairstyles is milk maid braids, not only are they so nice with the heat but they are also super simple.
Last week my cousin Becca Boo stayed over a few nights, she pretty much the best hair ever.
I asked if she would be my little blog model, she agreed:)
Basically all you need is a comb, lots of bobby pins, and hairspray if you want it.
first, part the hair down the middle.
next, braid each side.
after that, just wrap the braid around the top of your head and bobby pin them to death.
(you can also hair spray it at this point if you'd like but I know some people are not so fond that)
Becca's hair was awesome to do because it is so long that it made more of a braided crown then milk maid braids, which looked beautifulll on her.
Yippie for my pretty baby cousin! I always love our time together!
more later, xo
j

ps. Sally if you read this you should know that Greg continually refers to these as the "Sally Murphy Braids" :)
